OFFICIAL HOUSING DATA

The Swiss housing market in figures.

This page shows data for Switzerland and all 26 cantons. It covers homes in use, rented homes and home owners. It also shows shares and change over time. The server checks each set feed.

QUICK OVERVIEW

What is shown?

Four key figures give a quick view. More charts show how the cantons differ. A line can cover up to 10 years when the source has the data.

HOW TO READ IT

New data at a glance.

The focus is on last year and this year. New data often comes later. StandIn also marks the two latest years that have a value.

CLEAR SEPARATION

Not homes for rent.

The figures show the market. They do not show a home for rent. New offers from firms and private hosts stay on a separate page.

SWITZERLAND AND 26 CANTONS

All data and charts.

The cards show the latest data. The charts show shares, trends and gaps. All 26 cantons are displayed in full without a separate scroll bar.

METHOD AND DATA STATUS

How the data reaches the page.

StandIn keeps the data in its own store. The site reads only checked data. This keeps each page fast and stable.

Public data sources

StandIn checks direct CSV, JSON and PXWeb resources daily. The files come from the Swiss Confederation or a canton. CKAN checks only a known data set, at most weekly, and never runs a full scan.

Checks on a set plan

The job checks only feeds that are due. ETag and Last-Modified cut extra downloads. New years are added. An old value changes only when the source changes.

No made-up values

A missing value stays blank. StandIn does not turn it into zero. This year appears only when the source has a value.

Comparability

Indicators from separate surveys are not automatically identical. StandIn therefore shows the unit, period, dimension and original source. A direct comparison is useful only when the definition and reference year match.

Data quality

Official datasets may contain provisional values, estimates or notes about accuracy. These attributes remain stored in the database. The public view presents only observations that have been approved for publication.

Time coverage

Each time-series tile uses its own 10-year period ending with the latest available official year. If the newest value is from 2024, for example, the axis shows 2015–2024. Missing years are never estimated.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DATA

Common questions.

Are these current rental offers?

No. They are values for each year. Homes for rent are shown on the listing page.

Why is the current year not always available?

Many values come after the survey ends. StandIn then shows the latest years and gives the date.

Are the figures updated automatically?

Yes. The source must be on in the admin area. The job checks it on the set plan.

Why do some series cover less than 10 years?

Not each source has 10 years. StandIn shows only real values. It does not guess a missing year.

Can I view the data by canton?

Yes. Each of the 26 canton pages has data, charts, a date and a source.
